KALI: Orange & Neon Pink Duo Colour Block Woven Basket
Designed exclusively by The Basket Room, the KALI duo colour block baskets boast thick bands of neon pink and orange – a creative and unexpected coupling of colours that bring confidence and lift the spirits. Think Mexicana and Frida Kahlo! Produced in three sizes, these baskets can be put to use all over the home and repurposed as often as you like. Use yours in the nursery or playroom for storing toys or fill with loo roll and keep in the bathroom. Transform your indoor plants by homing them in a KALI woven basket, or use yours for storing dry foods in the kitchen. For more ideas, check out our basket uses page HERE.
These baskets are handwoven by a small collective of female weavers living near the Masinga Dam in Kenya – one of seven dams on the River Tana. Their chairlady started managing basket production in 1993, and today she leads several groups with specific production roles from twisting to dyeing and weaving sisal fibres.
Backing all the values of fair trade, our work with weaving cooperatives empowers women to support their families with a flexible income in the dry seasons, where subsistence farming often fails to meet the needs of the family. When you take home one of our woven baskets you actively support these weavers and their families, supporting our commitment to dignified working conditions. You can see the weavers who produce these baskets HERE.

FAIR TRADE & HANDMADE IN KENYA
The weavers are our life force - the sheer spirit of THE BASKET ROOM and the raw talent behind every fair trade basket we sell. Every woven basket has been worked on exclusively by one weaver, and each basket is their very own work of art before it becomes yours. Woven meticulously over a number of days, your basket has accompanied its creator on their daily errands from home to field to farm, enabling the weavers to earn a precious second income without having to give up their other jobs and responsibilities.
We’ve searched far and wide to partner up with the most remarkable artisans and networks of weaving cooperatives in Africa. We’re proud and privileged to regularly spend time with them all - getting to know the people, the raw materials and the harvesting, dyeing and weaving processes, first-hand.
The weavers take centre stage. These are their stories. Listen and share.
Where Are The Baskets Made?
Had already purchased two of the orange and pink block baskets before I had to buy a third one to put a new plant in. They are so stylish I love them! The delivery is always so fast can’t fault the service or the quality of the products.
