WINNEBA: Black, Orange & Turquoise Geo Woven Moses Basket
A central diamond design in black and orange geometric stripes, with tribal-inspired stripes in deep orange, black and minty green – and brown goat’s leather carry handles. WINNEBA is an award-winning Moses basket: recipient of the bronze award for best baby crib, pod or Moses design in the Junior Design Awards 2021.
The weavers who produce these Moses baskets work as part of a talented weaving co-operative in Northern Ghana. The majority of these weavers have been taught the age-old art of basket weaving from their own mothers and fathers. Agricultural work is the basis of most weavers’ incomes, but prolific drought makes it increasingly difficult for families to make ends meet. Basket weaving, and producing these exquisite woven Moses baskets, empowers women and men with the opportunity to earn a valuable second income.
Each Moses basket takes around three days to complete, using veta vera grass (also known as ‘elephant grass’) which grows wild in Ghana and produces wonderfully balanced and sturdy basketry.
Choose to accessorise your basket with an array of essentials for your newborns ultimate comfort. Combine a foam mattress and cotton sheet or choose to upgrade to a natural coconut coir and wool mattress (made from hundreds of coconut fibres and recommended for newborn babies) and organic cotton sheet. You can even add a cotton liner to complete the set!

FAIR TRADE AND HANDMADE IN GHANA
The weavers are our life force - the sheer spirit of THE BASKET ROOM and the raw talent behind every fair trade basket we sell. Every woven basket has been worked on exclusively by one weaver, and each basket is their very own work of art before it becomes yours. Woven meticulously over a number of days, your basket has accompanied its creator on their daily errands from home to field to farm, enabling the weavers to earn a precious second income without having to give up their other jobs and responsibilities.
We’ve searched far and wide to partner up with the most remarkable artisans and networks of weaving cooperatives in Africa. We’re proud and privileged to regularly spend time with them all - getting to know the people, the raw materials and the harvesting, dyeing and weaving processes, first-hand.
The weavers take centre stage. These are their stories. Listen and share.
Where Are The Baskets Made?
I was having a problem ordering extra sheets on line so rang, and a very helpful person took my order over the phone. I am thrilled with the moses basket which arrived in a few days and I could not recommend the company more.
