We’re no strangers to South American-inspired pom pom fringes and cacti prints in the world of Instagram and interiors. In fact, our love affair with Mexico has never been stronger than right now.. This is a jolly, upbeat trend and it is RIGHT up our street.

Mexican food and drink is possibly the hottest culinary ticket in London 2018 (umm hellooo, tequila and guacamole bar!) and this summer the trend is coming home with us as we see entire flats and houses transformed into laidback, playful, hacienda-style dwellings.

So, no longer satisfied with a smattering of Mexicana in our lives, we’re going full-on-fiesta with our woven baskets this summer and we've put together a collection to celebrate all of our brightest and most vibrant woven baskets, from tiny little woven planters for your cacti collection to one-off floor baskets, patterned bike baskets and and playful toy storage.

It’s always interesting to track where a new trend has come from. We think that this lust for hot, Latin colours and deliberately mismatched patterns and tones is:

1. Part natural progression from all those llamas, sugar skulls and cacti

2. Part homage to the genius of Frida Kahlo (whose exhibition at the V&A this summer is topping all of our cultural to-do lists)

3. Part rejection of all that’s topsy turvy (socially, culturally, politically, economically...) in the world we inhabit.

Michelle Ogundehin, editor of Elle Decoration calls it 'Happy Design' -

“There is a burgeoning movement to take those retro colours and brighten, heighten and vibrantly mix and deliberately mismatch them. It’s jolly, it’s upbeat and it basically says, well if the world is going to hell in a handcart, then we will do as we damn well please in our homes because we’re living for the moment!”

Live for the moment and viva la fiesta!
