Now summer's in full swing, do you have any trips planned? If so, you’ll probably need a stylish, practical, and above all, sizeable woven weekend bag. And that’s where our latest woven bags come in. Introducing two new woven weekend bags, designed exclusively for The Basket Room by renowned British accessories designer Hannah Harrison. Hannah's worked with us in the past, with her bags proving very popular. Her clients also include Lulu Guinness, Orla Kiely, Paul Smith and Jigsaw.

These handcrafted weekender bags will carry you through weekend after weekend of adventures. So what should you look for when you’re searching for a new weekend bag? Let’s find out.

When It Comes to a Weekend Bag, Bigger is Better!

Here at The Basket Room, we’re not know for packing light – can you relate? So when we asked designer Hannah Harrison to design us a pair of woven weekender bags, size was key!

Our weekend bags are huge – the biggest bags we've ever created. Measuring 65cm/25.5” at their widest point, our spacious woven weekender bags have room for everything you’ll need for a weekend away. Easily fitting in a pair of shoes, PJs, a change of clothing or two, a book, and all your other essentials, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without our capacious weekender bags!

Our woven weekend bags also make the perfect beach bag. You’ll easily fit in a towel, water, snacks, a book, suncream, shades and a sweater. And even a raincoat, if you’re enjoying a great British summer!

Ethical Production Comes as Standard

Naturally, as with all of our hand produced baskets, you can buy with confidence, knowing that our talented Kenyan weavers are paid a fair price for their incredible handiwork. But that’s not all. As well as providing our weavers with a valuable additional income, our woven weekend bags are made from natural, sustainable sisal and leather. That means they'll eventually biodegrade (after many, many years of service). So you can enjoy your beautiful bag, knowing you’re not adding to the landfill of the future, or releasing more microplastics into our environment.

Two Colourways to Suit Your Style

We asked designer Hannah Harrison to create two distinct looks, using the same oversized bag, to give you a choice of styles. And she did not disappoint! With two choices of weekend bag, it might be hard to decide. So let us help.

If you love classic monochrome tones and timeless design, you’ll love our MSTARI: Black Pinstripe Woven Weekend Bag. A stylish black and natural vertical pinstripe bag will never go out of style. This large sisal weekend bag is complemented by a black leather patch pocket handcrafted in a Nairobi leather workshop.

If you feel bold, colourful stripes with tonnes of personality are more your style, may we suggest our MAWINGU: Blue, Pink and Green Woven Weekend Bag? You’ll adore the wide ombré stripes in stunning shades of blue, pink and green and trending tan leather beaded fringing, also handmade in a leather workshop in Nairobi.

Whichever weekend bag suits your personal style, they both come with plenty of practical features, as well as good looks. Forget that frustrating search for your keys, phone or lip balm at the bottom of your bag. Each weekender bag has an internal zipped pocket to keep smaller items safe and easy to find. There’s a security strap fastened with a smart brass D-ring and clip. And we’ve made sure the leather handles are comfortable, so you’ll reach for your bag with a feeling of joy. Hand-cast recycled brass hardware finishes off our oversized tote bags to perfection.
