ZANGIRA, a bold and stylish storage basket boasting black stripes against natural undyed grass. These storage cube baskets come in three different sizes and are hand woven in Northern Ghana.
The great news is that ZANGIRA cubed storage baskets – also known as bolga baskets - can be used with those now ubiquitous IKEA cubed shelving units, and they look great all over the home. In the living room, fill yours with kindling or magazines – in the bathroom, use yours for storing toiletries, towels or even spare loo rolls. These stunning woven baskets are also great for keeping nurseries tidy, from hiding away nappies and wipes to stacking away books and toys.
Each woven storage basket takes up to three days complete, and is made from a wild-growing Ghanaian grass called veta vera. The production process is lengthy and even before weaving can begin the grass must be collected and split by hand, then hand-rolled and dyed - all before a skilled weaver from our partner weaving cooperative can begin her work.
To become an owner of one of our woven baskets is to become a part of our journey: a tale of sustainability and generations of craftsmanship. We are dedicated to supporting the weavers in a truly fair and reliable trade, providing an alternative source of income to farming communities whose main income can be unstable. Every woven basket comes with a thank you card from the co-operative that made yours. You can meet the weavers from Ghana HERE.
These black striped storage baskets are also available in rectangular shape, here.
