THANDIWE: Large Brown and Natural Calabash Basket
With their gourd-like shape, these calabash baskets are inspired by Zimbabwean water carriers and handwoven by women of the Tonga tribe in the Matabeleland North province of Zimbabwe.
Display one calabash basket alone on the floor or on a shelf, or group several together – these baskets will bring organic texture to any space. No two of these very special baskets are quite the same; some boast taller and narrower necks than others, some have a naturally-dyed brown rim, and some feature a delicate criss-cross or diamond pattern within the texture of the basket’s weave. All feature some degree of design woven into the bulbous section of the basket, in natural brown dye.
These decorative baskets are woven from ilala palm – a material indigenous to Zimbabwe as well as South Africa and Madagascar. Use yours as a large woven vase for holding dried flowers and tall grasses - or let this incredible decorative basket speak for itself, and stand alone.
