Make a bold and ethical statement with these striking woven grass placemats, handmade in rural Swaziland. These black and white placemats are woven from sustainably sourced lutindzi grass – a fibre known for its water and stain-resistant properties. Bring a little practical style to the dining table with MONO, and look out for matching or contrasting coasters and table runners too if you’re searching for the ideal gift.
A skilled craftswoman working within a Swazi weaving cooperative made these woven placemats, working in partnership with social enterprise Gone Rural Bomake. This not for profit organization now partners with over 770 artisans across three regions of Swaziland: each group trained to specialise in a different craft that works with the natural raw materials available in that area. Since 1970, Gone Rural have been empowering women, supporting children and creating sustainable employment – and improving local healthcare and education. When you purchase these exquisite woven goods from us you support this essential progress. You can meet the weavers from Swaziland here.
