100% Kenyan-made, the grey and white speckled NGUO basket bag is woven by a member of a family-run weaving co-operative in Eastern Region of Kenya. This is a beautiful summer tote bag that’s the perfect size for hitting the gym, the beach and the shops with.
Using the skills of a highly skilled work force and using only locally-available materials, our basket bags take up to six days to complete before cow hide straps are crafted and fitted at a local leather works. The coloured wool is sourced from upcycled jumpers and synthetic yarns, whilst indigenous sisal grass creates the base of each woven strand.
To bring home one of our hand woven basket bags is to become an important part of our story. Basket weaving represents an additional source of income for women from farming communities, whose primary revenue relies on crop production which can be extremely unpredictable.
