Our MIMEA collection of colour block baskets come in sage and white, as a nod to Pantone’s Colour of The Year: Greenery. Embrace jungalow style and use your woven baskets as planters for your flowering cacti or as flower pots for your indoor succulents. Available in three handy sizes, our medium basket makes a splendid large planter and fabulous storage for bathroom supplies, toiletries and jewellery to hats, gloves and scarves. For more ideas, check out our basket uses page HERE.
These coloured baskets are hand made by a small Kenyan weaving cooperative of around forty ladies who have known the art of basket weaving from a young age, having been taught by mothers and grandmothers. We love to keep this highly skilled group busy with regular orders in this popular basket style, so sisal grass is sourced ready-rolled when orders come in. This local grass is then hand-dyed in large vats and hung out to dry before a traditional twining method is used to produce each woven basket.
Buying our blocked colour baskets actively supports these weavers in supporting their families through the perilous dry seasons, where subsistence farming can fail to sustain the family. We are proud to empower women with the flexible working options that basket weaving offers. Each woven basket comes with a thank you card from this Kenyan weaving cooperative, and you can meet them HERE.
