Unique, exquisite and hand woven in rural Kenya. There is only one KISASA in existence: once she’s gone, she’s gone! This gorgeous planter, embellished with delicate beads of yellow, white and green, is woven from doum palm leaves and sisal and is the perfect home for your beloved indoor plants.
We are privileged to partner with the Ngurunit Weavers Group in Northern Kenya, an extremely rural weaving cooperative of pastoralists. Milk is a way of life for the village, and these woven baskets were traditionally created for collecting camel’s milk in.
Although extremely robust, this type of woven basket has become a rarity as plastic and metal jugs have taken their place for collecting animal milk in. Today, they are reborn as practical and beautiful woven planters for the home.
You become a patron of this precious art form and a supporter of the Ngurunit legacy when you purchase one of our palm leaf baskets. Each basket comes with a thank you card from the cooperative – and you can meet the ladies behind your basket HERE.
