HEWA: Eyes Embroidered Bucket Bag
Always look forward – never look back! A handwoven sisal bucket bag with a pair of hand embroidered eyes, HEWA boasts both a handheld braided leather strap and a leather crossbody strap - both removable - to transition you effortlessly from day to night. It’s up to you whether to wear yours over the shoulder, crossbody or handheld - removing one strap is quick and easy thanks to HEWA’s recycled brass dog clips.
HEWA features a heavy cotton canvas and leather liner, drawstring closure and handcrafted hardware made from recycled brass. Practical and stylish HEWA will elevate even the most understated ensemble with its iconic silhouette and playful eyes motif.
This woven bucket bag is one in a very small production run and was produced by a rural Kenyan weaving group we have worked extensively with since we first launched The Basket Room. Each eye has been meticulously hand embroidered by a gifted artist living and working in Nairobi with whom we have collaborated for several years. All leatherwork carefully produced and stitched by a team of dedicated leatherworkers we also have a strong and close relationship with.
HEWA is one of seven very special bags we have produced in collaboration with British accessories designer Hannah Harrison. You can read all about this hopeful collaboration, dreamed up in the winter lockdown and driven by a longing for colour and connection, here.
