Meet vibrant FWATA: a striking basket bag, hand woven by women working within several weaving cooperatives in Eastern Kenya and Nairobi. This woven shoulder bag boasts vibrant tones of red, blue and yellow and is made out of yarn from upcycled woolly jumpers.

This yarn basket bag was woven by a member of Kenya’s famous Kamba tribe, practising within a cooperative. These craftswomen design each basket bag themselves, choosing their own preferred patterns and colourways. These ethical baskets take up to four days to weave, and basketry is often fitted in around farming, socialising, childcare and housework.

You support the weavers when you bring home one of our yarn basket bags. Our basket orders provide flexible work and a vital second income for the Kamba weavers, whose main household revenues rely on weather-dependent farming.  Each woven basket bag is supplied with a thank you card from the weaving cooperative, and you can meet the weavers HERE.
