Meet DUAYAW a hand woven market basket produced in the traditional Ghanaian bolga basket style. With tribal patterns in black and orange, this fair trade basket will bring a splash or Ghanaian colour to any corner of your home. What’s more, this market basket is totally unique: made once and sold once.
DUAYAW is a great basket for market trips and picnics, but can also be put to use all over the home. Pop yours in the bathroom and fill with towels or toiletries, or in your living room as a place to store throws and rugs. Drowning in children’s toys? Meet your new nursery organiser! The beauty of these ethical baskets is that you’ll keep finding new uses for them, time and time again.
Woven from ethically-sourced veta vera grass in Northern Ghana, this beautiful bolga basket is made from local veta vera grass – a hardy fibre that’s sustainably sourced and perfect for producing durable baskets. The grass is hand-rolled before being woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana.
Most of the artisans producing these bolga baskets are farmers first and foremost, but drought makes it increasingly difficult to live off the land alone. Basket weaving empowers these people with the chance to earn a flexible second income. Each basket comes with a thank you card from the weaving co-operative.
