The AKAPULE bicycle basket sports a bright fuchsia pink stripe around its rim: a vibrant pop of Ghanaian colour against a natural grass background. This pretty oblong front basket, designed in-house by The Basket Room, will give your wheels an instant style upgrade.
Our woven bicycle baskets are spacious enough to store your trainers, kit and water bottle for visits to the gym and are perfect for shopping trips and picnics on days out. Use yours as a traditional front basket or as a chic pannier attached to the rear of your bike. The AKAPULE also fastens handily to bannisters, towel rails and cots as an attractive and alternative storage solution for all those odds and ends. Each bike basket takes up to three days to weave by hand, and is made from an indigenous Ghanaian grass called veta vera. This grass is harvested, split, hand-rolled and dyed before a skilled weaver from our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana sets to work.
When you buy one of our beautiful woven bicycle baskets you become a part of our narrative: a beautiful story of sustainability, community and craftsmanship. We are dedicated to supporting the weavers by engaging with them in honest and fair trade, helping to provide an alternative source of income to help support farming communities whose primary income is unpredictable.
Each bicycle basket comes with a thank you card from the weaving co-operative that made yours. Want to know more about the people behind the baskets? Meet the weavers here.
