This exquisite ABURI hand woven market basket has been produced in the traditional Ghanaian bolga basket style. Boasting tribal patterns of black, red and yellow, this fair trade basket is perfect for market trips or picnics, or used as a stylish solution to home storage. Fill with blankets, kindling, craft projects or toys – you’ll keep finding new uses for yours! Every market basket in this collection is unique – made once and sold once.
Made from ethically-sourced veta vera grass in Northern Ghana, this beautiful bolga basket is 100% vegan with no leather finishes. ABURI is made from robust veta vera grass - a fantastic material for producing durable baskets. The grass is hand-rolled before being woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana. These grasses grow locally and are picked from the tip, allowing the root to continue to grow.
Farming is the basis of most Ghanaian weavers’ incomes, but drought makes it increasingly difficult for these people to make ends meet. Basket weaving brings the opportunity to earn a valuable second income that’s both flexible and fair. Each hand woven storage basket comes with a thank you card from the weaving co-operative.
