ABOSO: Large Brown and Black Log or Laundry Basket
Description
Glow up your fireside with the beautiful ABOSO log basket, in size large. With elaborate patterns in brown and black, this tall woven basket is ideal for logs and kindling but can also be used as a laundry basket, a toy basket, or a storage basket for throws and blankets, yoga mats and workout equipment. Every log basket in this new collection is a one-off, designed by the weaver herself.
The ABOSO log basket is handwoven from veta vera grass – a tall, tough and abundant material that’s sustainably sourced in Ghana. Weaving these log baskets brings women the unique opportunity to earn a second income, balancing their farming work, childcare and household duties within the supportive and ethical framework of the weaving cooperative they belong to. The cotton calico liners produced to fit our laundry baskets are manufactured by a social enterprise based in East London. These cotton liners are sewn by women facing multiple barriers to employment, being previously unemployed and with no prior work experience. These women have learnt exemplary sewing skills on free training programmes and now work to commission, costed at the London Living Wage. Choose to have your woven laundry basket with or without the liner!

Our Ghanaian woven baskets are a celebration of Northern Ghana’s abundant natural raw material, and the age-old weaving skills of its people: sustainable style and ethical production, through and through. In our ongoing commitment to fair trade, our baskets are produced from natural materials indigenous to the region they are woven in.
Home of the hardy veta vera grass, Ghana is where our collections of sturdier, stiffer baskets are made: woven bike baskets, square, rectangular and circular storage baskets, bolga shopping baskets, dog baskets and baby Moses baskets. Where Kenyan sisal grass creates supple and pliable baskets and bags, Ghanaian veta vera grass produces more structured baskets.We partner with 24 weaving cooperatives and over 1000 weavers in Ghana, both male and female. This portable and flexible craft means that weavers can take their work home with them if preferred, completing their weaving around other household tasks and duties to create truly fair trade baskets. Bicycle baskets and storage baskets generally take around three days to complete, and the process – as you will see from the pictures – is meticulous.
