BUHERA: Natural Woven Pot
In Zimbabwe, Buhera pots are made of clay and used to hold grains and fetch water. These statuesque woven baskets are inspired by this traditional household item, in both size and shape. In your home, smaller Buhera baskets can be used as woven vases for decorative grasses and dried flowers, or equally they can simply stand alone. A larger Buhera basket looks wonderful floor-standing and will truly elevate any space it inhabits, from minimalist and modern homes to more rustic abodes.
Woven from local reeds and ilala palm, these tall woven pots are handmade by women in the Manicaland province of Zimbabwe. The group we partner with works with 28 weaving groups in this region, each with 50 -100 active members. Farming is these women’s main source of income, but basket weaving enables families to make a sustainable income during the arid seasons.
