Bring a Kenyan splash of colour to the beach, the gym or the shops with the vibrant NAFASI hand woven basket bag.
100% Kenyan-made, the NAFASI is woven by a member of a weaving co-operative in Eastern Region of Kenya that’s led by two sisters and one of their daughters. Cultivating the skills of a very talented labour force and working with only locally-available materials, our basket bags take up to six days to complete before their cow hide straps are crafted and fitted at a local leather works. The wool used to weave the exquisite patterns into these colourful bags comes from repurposed jumpers and synthetic yarns, and local sisal grass forms the base of each strand.
Some might say that the skills used to produce these colourful bags are woven through the generations, as weaving techniques are passed from grandmothers to mothers to granddaughters. We are proud to support the weavers in this craft, providing an additional source of income for farming families whose earnings can be unpredictable in the dry seasons. To purchase one of our basket bags is to support these women and the work they do.
