ENEA: Slate Grey Yarn & Leather Crossbody Bag
Boasting geometric patterns in grey and white, the ENEA crossbody bag with zip closure hand woven by a member of a family run weaving co-operative in Eastern Region of Kenya.
Production of this beautiful purse is sustainable and ethical, from the locally-sourced sisal fibres to the coloured yarn. Once the weaving work is finished, these bags are sent to a leading leather workshop where cow hide shoulder straps are produced and attached by artisan leather workers. The fine skills used to produce them are passed from grandmothers to granddaughters, and so each bag tells a unique story of collaboration and ethics.
The women in the weaving cooperative mainly come from farming families, reliant mainly on the production of crops as a source of income - but during times of drought they can struggle to produce enough harvest. Weaving is an alternative income for these women and their families, generating money to pay for school fees and food, but also bringing empowerment.
All our hand-woven bags come with a thank you card from the cooperative that made it, and you can meet the weavers HERE.
