The Maasai people of Kenya are renowned for their intricate beaded jewellery and ornaments, and virtually all Maasai women learn and practice the craft of beadwork. Beaded jewellery signifies social status within the Maasai tribe, and necklaces, bracelets and pendants are worn by men and women alike.

Women from five beadwork artisan groups work on these beaded Christmas decorations for The Basket Room, living on the outskirts of Mombasa. In purchasing one of these pieces you help us bring more creative work to these talented women, enabling communities to make a reliable income whilst keeping a precious craft alive.
